Finally catching up on a bit of journal reading, and need to draw attention to some recent issues of Political Quarterly.
Vol 79.2 (2008) has a symposium on inheritance tax.
Vol 79.1 (2008) has a symposium to mark the October 2007 inauguration of the Equality and Human Rights Commission. Also caught my attention:
Crick, B. (2008) ‘The four nations: introduction’, Political Quarterly, 79(1), pp. 71-79. [From the architect of much of the official citizenship agenda]
MacDonnell, M. (2008) ‘The venture state’, Political Quarterly, 79(1), pp. 91-99. [An assessment of Blair’s reform strategies from 2001 onwards]
and:
Mitchell, A. (2008) ‘Gambling for growth: speculating for stability’, Political Quarterly, 79(1), pp. 62-70.
Additionally, this week sees the publication of the latest from the Guardian’s economic editors series of assults on market fundamentalists:
Elliott, L. and Atkinson, D. (2008) The gods that failed: how blind faith in markets has costs us our future. London: Bodley Head.
expect much more of this now that the so-called credit crunch has brought neo-liberalism to the same sort of crisis of authority that Keynesianism endured through the 1970s.
Vol 78.4 (2007) contains a number of papers about Blair’s ‘feral beasts’ (document of an era) speech about the media in Britain; see in particular:
Seaton, J. (2007) ‘Feral beasts: an introduction to Tony Blair’s Reuters speech on the media’, Political Quarterly, 78(4), pp. 471-475.
Vol 78.3 (2007) has some papers on devolution and constitutional reform; also
Heppell, T. (2007) ‘Weak and ineffective?: reassessing the party leadership of John Major’, Political Quarterly, 78(3), pp. 382-391.
Finally, the website politics.co.uk is really maturing now and worth consulting on a regular basis. I have added it to the links papge, also a number of other sites.
