The latest issue of the IMF’s quarterly magazine, Finance and Development, 44.1 (March 2007) contains a really clear exposition (’PPP versus the market: which weight matters‘, pp. 50-1) of the difference between GDP valuations at market prices and those at purchasing power parity and the implications of these differences for the relative standing of national economies.
